Your Zooniverse project notes

Which Zooniverse project did you choose to look into?  Would you recommend it to your classmates to join in or not and why?

Think about these questions:  was it easy to use or confusing?  were the tasks straightforward or difficult?  was it interesting or too boring?

  1. Trinity D.- I chose to look into the Placenta Profiles project. I definitely recommend joining in if you are passionate about developing research related to healthcare or if you just want to develop and put your lab skills to use. It is very straightforward and easy to do therefore you may get a little bored, however, you are doing a simple task to help with something big.

  2. Embry Rickman - The project I chose is called Frog Find. I would recommend this project to anyone interested in data analysis or likes listening to nature ambience. The sound samples get a bit repetitive after a while because the project only has one or two more areas to collect data from, but the task is fairly straightforward. All you do is listen to an audio sample and identify whether or not the calls of target species are present.

  3. Niveta Sharma- I chose the Dental Disease Detection project. I would recommend this to anyone interested in dentistry or even anyone just interested in learning about the mouth. This project shows what different dental diseases look like/what to look for. The task was simple and easy to get the hang of, it was interesting after the first couple times but got repetitive after a couple times.

  4. Lucky Payala: I chose Project Rattlecam on Zooniverse. I would recommend this project for people interested in animals and animal's social interactions or learning about behavior. Overall I thought the questions were clear and not redundant, but analyzing the pictures can be a bit tedious if doing it for a long time.

  6. I chose the "You see it? You name it!" project on Zooniverse- I would recommend the project since it was mindless and easy to understand, however, definitely don't participate in too much of it, or it will start to feel mundane and repetitive. The tasks, themselves, were very straightforward, but it would have been nice to have more of an interactive feature. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1n1cfvX5op6hRy-No_PwDuGLbus0kj5pwgTjG7XKhKiw/edit?usp=sharing

I chose the project "OceanEyes". I would recommend this project to my classmates because it was super easy to do and interesting. All you had to do was identify what fish were in the picture (if there was any) and then mark them up by drawing a line. I think it is an effective way to track the population of fish. In this project, you are focusing on 7 types of Deepwater Fish, and they include pictures as reference as well as videos to guide you! I think this made it simple so the audience doesn't have to worry about knowing a hundred different types of fish.

  8. I did my Zooniverse project on Dolphin Phonations and classifications. I thought the topic was really interesting. I gave a lot of background information about bottlenose dolphins and how we use phonations to make different classifications and further study bottlenose dolphins. The activity was slightly repetitive, but it was interesting to hear the different dolphin clicks and other noises.

  9. I did my zooniverse prokecct on classifying woodpeckers and I would recommend it to my classmates because it was very educational while also being very easy tasks to navigate and figure out how to do. It really interested me in woodpeckers and their cavities especially because I have never thought about them before!

  10. My project was called addressing health. It focused on the health of Postal Workers during the 19th and 20th centuries. It taught me a lot about the different reasons for being sick during these years, and also about how to decipher old health records. Overall, it was a really interesting project and the research was very well constructed, complete with multiple outside resources. This being said, I would recommend this to my classmates.

  11. Sahana Gujja- I chose the World Architecture Unlocked project. This project shows what transcribing historical items(photographs) would look like or what exactly to look for. This project is a simulation of uncovering the secrets of the most comprehensive and mysterious photographic library collections. Overall, it was a really interesting project and the tasks were sometimes challenging which kept you on your toes/wasn't that repetitive. I would recommend this to anyone interested in history and different types of architecture.

Which Zooniverse project did you choose to look into?
Snapshot Wisconsin-classifying animal images captured on trail cameras.

Would you recommend it to your classmates to join in or not and why?
Yes. It was set up very well and I think that the information is something that is needs to be recorded on local animal populations.

Think about these questions: was it easy to use or confusing? were the tasks straightforward or difficult? was it interesting or too boring?
The task were easy to understand and do, but it was interesting enough that you could it there for a long time.
