These Charts Show that COVID-19 Vaccines are doing their job, Jesse Deutch

As the coronavirus continues to surge ahead, public health officials are begging people to get vaccinated and take the virus seriously. Over the course of the last 6 months, hospitalization rates in those who are vaccinated are much lower than those who are not. The United States has not seen such a high rate of hospitalizations since the winter surge. When vaccines started to roll out in late 2020, the rate dropped to the lowest it had ever been, but now more and more people are refusing to get vaccinated. The main risk is, especially with the highly contagious delta variant is that people who are not vaccinated could spread the virus to those who are.
What do you think the main reason is for people not getting vaccinated?
What age group do you think resists the vaccine the most?
What do you think will happen to the world in say, another 6 months?
Will more continue to refuse the vaccine or the opposite?
Hi Jesse!
ReplyDeleteI really don't know why people are not getting vaccinated. More and more states and companies are mandating that their workforce get vaccinated, but people have been rebelling by not getting vaccinated and losing their job and by abusing religious exemptions, even though many major religious figures and institutes in Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam have encouraged people to receive the vaccine. Furthermore, some of the people who are refusing the covid vaccine had no issues getting the flu shot.
I think the reason people are not getting vaccinated is because of misinformation that is in part perpetuated by the echo chambers social media provides us. Not only is our world more connected than every, it is also more stupider than ever.

Hey Jesse!
ReplyDeleteThough I believe it is vital to get the vaccine, but when observing my community I see that people are against the vaccine because they are skeptical about the substance and the speed it was produced and/or are using the vaccine as a method of protest. The main age group which seems to be resisting the vaccine the most is the teens/ young adults. With the mindset that the younger bodies are able to resist and recover from covid easier, the younger generation seems to think that they are better off without it.
Considering the pattern at which the pandemic has been evolving in the past, in 6 months I see the world still in the pandemic with the vaccine available to even younger children. I think companies will work to have majority of people back in person.
It is inevitable that people will resist the vaccine and no matter the efforts of the world to encourage the vaccine, there are also those who advise against it. The people that have decided, at this point, not to get the vaccine seem to have made up their mind, for themselves and any kids they might have. Others simply don't get the vaccine as a sign of strength, or as a sign of protest in the sense that getting the vaccine would indicate that they have lost.

Hi Jesse!
ReplyDeleteI think a big reason why people are not getting the vaccine is the fear that comes with it. Although this vaccine has been approved, people still remain skeptical about the speed of the process.
I think teens and young adults are resisting the most since it is seen that they are less likely to become harmed from COVID-19.
I think in the next 6 months, more people will hopefully become vaccinated and young children will soon be able to receive the vaccine as well.
As time goes on, I think people will become less reluctant to receiving the vaccine, although there are of course going to be people that are still skeptical and refuse the vaccine.

I hope more and more people begin to get vaccinated and society as a whole starts to see an improvement of covid cases going down and outbreaks lessening. Hopefully in the next 6 months young children and those who are resisting the vaccine begin to get it, and the world will begin to return to pre-pandemic lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteJesse Deutch!
DeleteI think the big reason many people decided to not get the vaccine initially was the rushed FDA approval, but now since the vaccine has been fully FDA approved I don't really understand why people aren't getting it. I hope that as time goes on more and more people will get the vaccine and help reduce the spread of COVID. The age group that most likely resists the vaccine the most is probably teens and young adults because the virus is less harmful to those two groups of people.

I think that with the environment we live in that is very dependent on the internet, many people become critical of things that are very much proved to help us. People resort to becoming paranoid or simply refusing the virus because they believe it is against their "rights" when in fact they are putting themselves and others in danger. I do think that Covid-19 will be a part of our lives at least for the next year, and we will definitely see social and tangible repercussions of this event in years to come.

ReplyDeleteI feel like there are many factors that prevent a person from not getting the vaccine. I feel like social media and politics really influenced people, and because of the pandemic, I believe that more people spent more time online. This kind of relates to the never-ending debate about social media. One good side is that it connects people but a bad side is that many people misuse it.
From the article summary, you mentioned how doctors and hospitals wish more people would get vaccinated and take the virus seriously. I feel like because there are some people who aren't directly affected by COVID-19, they don't really know how to handle it seriously. But on the other hand, doctors are witnessing the outbreak to a greater magnitude. I feel like there needs to be away for everyone to realize how serious COVID-19 is...
ReplyDeleteI think the main reason people don't get vaccinated is lack of education. If they knew how vital it was they would change their mind, and the information they do have is probably false. I believe it is middle aged people who probably resist the vaccine the most because they aren't yet to where they desperately need it (like elderly people) and younger people are more likely to be reached and educated. My prediction is that in another six months there will be new variants and we will start locking down again, but we will keep coping and figuring it out.
I think there are a few reasons why people are not getting the vaccine. The main reason I see is the vaccine is often politicized and information about it is manipulated by the media. Some people will see a political figure or news site they don’t like advocating for the vaccine and will then see the vaccine in a bad way. In addition, people are easily influenced by others when any sort of information is withheld. The pandemic has put a lot of pressure on people, and that pressure can lead to reliance on others and bad decision-making.

Hi Jesse,
ReplyDeleteI think the one biggest reasons for why people are not getting the vaccine is it seems to have gone from a health/social issue to a political one now. With this huge polarity between people in America it is hard to now convince people of what shouldn't be difficult to do. Furthermore I think the addition of people think that COVID isn't real and that it is some sort of conspiracy has gone well over just a "couple people" who believe in this,
Hi Jesse,
ReplyDeleteI think the main reason as to why people are not getting their vaccines is because they are hearing about illnesses that have affected people who have already gotten the vaccine and are using that as their justification as to why they won't get it (they think that the vaccine is not doing anything or is just going to make things worse). I also think they are not getting it because they think it will cause future problems. I also know that the main reason that people around out age are not getting it is because their parents don't want them to get it.
