Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is 90% effective, preliminary trial data show
On November 9th a global pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German biotech company BioNTech company released results from their phase 3 clinical trial that had a 90% success rate in combating covid. The trial still needs to be reviewed by their peers , but the 90% success rate is above the United States Food and Drug Administration's recommendation of covid-19 vaccines having a 50% success rate. The trial is still ongoing so the numbers could come back and change. So far out of the 43 thousand People who volunteered for the trial 38, 995 Have completed the vaccine regimen only 94 people have gotten covid. We still don't know how the vaccine could affect different age groups. Also the vaccine Could also prevent the disease but still have you get infected. Even though things are not certain this is a good step and shows progress in finding a vaccine to stop covid.

I think we will have a small or decent vaccine by 2021, Having anything can help stop or reduce the amount of cases in areas. I think younger age groups may have less of an affect although older groups may have weird symptoms. I think that having multiple vaccines will help the process and symptoms of the shot.

The vaccine is predicted to be distributed to the general public in later spring to early summer, I think that it likely will be completed by the end of 2021, however, this is difficult to predict as we are still far out. The plan is to distribute to the elderly and high risk first, then to doctors and nurses, followed by essential workers like teachers, and lastly the public. It is not yet known how the vaccine could impact different age groups, there is a possibility that the vaccine may come in different doses.

I think it is hard to tell when exactly the vaccine will be officially released and available to the general public. Of course we have had experts give their opinions and projections such as next spring/summer, but I just think with everything so up in the air right now, we just don't know. My guess is that is will be available to the public at the very end of 2021, possibly even into 2022 . I do wonder if you are younger, do you just get a smaller dose of the vaccine or a completely different one? Super interesting topic, thanks for sharing!

I think their could be multiple vaccines for different age groups eventually. I do not think right know we will but as we see how it affects people of different groups and if their needs to be different vaccines.

I just saw on CNN (Dec 7, 2020), that in the UK they have started giving out vaccines to a small group of people. I think that the vaccine will work, but I honestly don't think the vaccine will be accessible to the public by 2021. There's so much skeptism and so many anti-vaxxers in America, even if the vaccine was open to the public a lot of people don't want to get it.

i think we may have a vaccine before the end of 2021 at the rate we are going, i do know that different doses of different things affect different age groups but I don't necessarily think that there will need to be a different vaccine for each group, maybe just a different dosage. - Nathan Clark
ReplyDeleteI think that there is a good chance of having a vaccine widely available by the end of 2021 because there has been extensive effort in cultivating and publicizing it. If the clinical trials and the high risk groups react well to it, it will probably be delivered to as many people possible. -Shirin Saha
