Quarrying stones in Easter Island Statues by Nandhini Sivabalakannan
Recent examinations by anthropological archaeologists suggest that quarrying stones in Easter Island statues made the soil more fertile for farming. In the past, the Polynesian island was known for the Easter Island statues, however, the actual soil that surrounded the statues weren’t examined or weren’t given thought to. This was mostly due to the fact that the island was actually leaning towards societal disintegration and environmental demise. With this discovery, they basically found that the soil was rich with phosphorus and other elements crucial for farming. Furthermore, when examining the landscape more the scientists found out more about, “how pre-contact people smartly utilized their landscape”.
