The Global Safety Net by Aidan Smith

Climate change and biodiversity loss are often viewed as separate topics when in reality they are very closely related. The global safety net targets both of these topics in hopes to save the earth from the worsening climate crisis. The main goal of this initiative is to conserve and protect a total 45.7% of available land on earth. This 45.7% is split between multiple areas strategically chosen for specific dying habitats and species. This initiative not only saves animals and conserves the land, it also reduces the carbon emissions that would’ve came from tearing these habitats down for urbanization.

How will they make sure this will truly happen?

When will this initiative turn into a reality?

How will you ensure no private companies will buy the land for their own uses?

  1. To make sure this will happen and make it reality there needs to be government protection on these lands, therefore private companies could be kept out of them a bit easier. Thanks for Presenting

  2. It is difficult to say when or if the entire goal of this initiative will be achieved, however, at a conference next year in Kunming, China 2.3% of the land area will be identified for immediate protection to provide habitat for the most endangered species. It seems as if the initiative is holding conferences to ensure that action is taken, however, it will not become a reality all at once as it is a gradual program.

  3. Like Tyler said, in order for this to happen there definitely needs to be government involvement. If local governments aren't onboard then it will cause challenges to make the initiative take place. Constituents need to show their government leaders this is an initiative they care about, and they can do so by voting , peaceful protesting, etc.

  4. To make sure private companies don't buy this land for their own use, we need more government regulation if the government doesn't intervene I could see this projected easily being corrupted by private companies.

  5. to make sure this happens there will definitely have to be government regulation and laws that protect these lands, these areas will also need to be guarded from other threats like poachers. This initiative will turn into a reality when governments get involved. to ensure private companies do not buy the land for their own use, governments once again need to intervene and protect the land. - Nathan Clark

  6. I think the government will have to make and ensure that the private companies can try to go around the law and also if we make sure regular people know what's happening and help watch these people. many private companies do this in secret and most people don't know anything about it until its too late

  7. I think that there need to be strict government regulation of these areas so private businesses can't buy them for their own selfish purposes. I also think that this is a really good idea (fingers crossed that it turns into a reality!) and will help revive dying populations and ecosystems.

  10. In order to ensure that private companies dont try to buy the land for their own means the government will just have to trap down and place down regulations to ensure that the land cannot be taken advantage of.
