Mars Microbes By Scott Holmes Summary - Ancient Mars could’ve had an environment that could sustain underground microbes. These microbes likely would’ve altered the atmosphere and developed the planet into an ice age. Boris Sauterey, researcher at Sorbonne University states that microbes are often the cause of their own demise. The microbes likely produced high amounts of methane which could protect them from the radiation and the cold surface of Mars, so it’s possible they are still around today and are just getting further below the surface to stay warm. Millions of years ago Mars likely had oceans which would be great for the microbes as well but now those oceans are gone. Are the Microbes still around today? Where did all the water go? Current antidepressant medication only works for 30-50% of people who use them, and when they do work it takes weeks to take effect. In a clinical study 24 people were split into two groups, one group received two doses of psilocybin pills spaced about a week and a half apart. Then a comparison group of 11 people waited eight weeks, then also received the two doses of psilocybin and supportive therapy (the first group also received supportive therapy). The findings showed that the medication reduced depression significantly. Sometimes in clinical trials people’s expectations of a drug can also lead to positive effects, but because of how significant the amelioration was it proves that the Psilocybin is effective. Whale Microplastic Consumption https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/facts/whale-facts Recent Stanford research has concluded that Whales are consuming an alarming amount of microplastics in the ocean. While whales aren't ingesting the microplastic itself, they're ingesting it from other animals such as Krill and certain fish. Whales tend to feed from 50 to 250 feet below the water's surface, which also happens to have the largest concentration of microplastic. The krill from this depth are able to survive off the microplastic, which means the whales are consuming the microplastic from the krill.
