Monkey cloning in 2019 by Tamaris Livers
Zhong Zhong was born on the 27th of November 2017 and Hua Hua was born on December 5th, 2017. Hua Hua was born in a laboratory at Institute of Neuroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghi using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). This technique was also used in 1966 when Dolly, the sheep was created, Dolly then died from a lung disease. This technique Which means creating a viable embryo from a body cell and an egg cell. This was a successful cloning of two female crab-eating macaques. Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua were the result of 79 attempts. Two other monkeys were initially cloned from a different type of cell, but failed to survive. During the last attempt of the creation of these monkeys their was 6 preganancies on 6 female monkeys and only 2 resulted in living animals.
